What’s the matter, writer? That blank page in front of you got you down?
You say your bucket of creative motivation is empty? You fear the procrastination monster has come to stay? And the writer’s block is too big to overcome so you’re waiting for the magic writing fairy to land on your shoulder and deliver perfect pages of prose, sublime sonnets, or perhaps inspirational ideas?
Well, get over it. It isn’t going to happen.
Here’s a newsflash: Your dreamy muse is busy elsewhere with a happy rainbow unicorn in a field of delicious, colorful jelly beans under a marshmallow sky and not likely to return anytime soon.
In the meantime, here’s a word of advice, a solution to your problem: write.

What a great little piece, Jack! I’m guessing from your advice to ‘write’ that you’ve managed to rope your muse down and make her do as she’s told. I hope that’s so and she stays that way until you’ve finished your book. My muse is a wilful little beast who comes and goes as she pleases (a bit like the little girl who had a little curl: when she’s good, she’s very, very good, and when she’s bad, she’s horrid.’) Still, at least she deigns to visit on occasion, and my book is progressing slowly.
Thank you, milliethom. Yes, my muse is a feisty, headstrong little thing and sounds as if she’s much like yours. Book is progressing, nearing the end (I hope) all-the-while the muse is tempting me onward to finish another short story book. Happy to hear your book is progressing, even if at a slow pace; anxious to find out what your characters are up to in book 3.
Write, even if you have to take unresponsive characters to lunch with other, get them in a fight, kill their car ona one lane bridge. Even if you’ll never use it you have to write your way out of it…

Haha! Been there many times. A good walk out in the countryside usually helps. Preferably near water, or somewhere high with a big sky. For me anyway. 😊
